Does it bite?

It can, and an adult tegu bites seriously. A captive-bred one handled regularly from a hatchling usually stays calm.

How big does it get?

Males commonly reach about 1.2 to 1.4 m nose to tail and weigh as much as a medium dog. Females stay a little smaller.

What enclosure do I need?

Think furniture, not aquarium: a custom wooden enclosure of at least two by one metres for an adult, with deep substrate for digging and a basking spot.

What does it eat?

Whole prey such as rodents and chicks, plus insects, eggs and some fruit. It is an omnivore, so variety matters.
